Empowering reproductive possibility: Next Biosciences walks the journey with you
Next Biosciences recently celebrated 20 years of innovation. As South Africa’s leader in reproductive genetic testing, the company proudly stands as a female-led organisation, empowering informed decisions throughout the fertility and pregnancy journey, when they matter most.

At the heart of Next Biosciences is a passionate, multi-disciplinary team of doctors, scientists, genetic counsellors, and business innovators working collaboratively with medical professionals to provide expert support across the reproductive journey.

With over 43 000 pregnancies genetically screened and more than 20 000 embryos tested, Next Biosciences is the trusted leader in reproductive genetics.

A trusted partner in reproductive health
Next Biosciences began with a bold idea: to introduce stem cell banking to South Africa. Since then, they have expanded into the fertility and pregnancy journey. Their suite of world-class genetic tests and services is designed to support individuals at every stage, whether they are planning to start a family or expecting a child.

These include:
CarrierScreen – to assess the risk of passing on inherited genetic conditions

While most people are healthy with no family history of genetic conditions, many people are carriers of at least one genetic condition and are still at risk for passing these on to their children. If a woman and her partner are both carriers of the same genetic condition, they have a chance of having a child affected with the condition.

Products of Conceptions Screening (POCScreen) – to uncover potential causes of pregnancy loss

The POCScreen test is done on the tissue from the miscarriage to evaluate the presence of an abnormal chromosome number and determine if the miscarriage was caused by a  chromosomal abnormality. The test aims to give you answers after a loss and provide your healthcare provider with information for reproductive counselling.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) – to identify the healthiest embryos for in vitro fertilisation (IVF)

PGT-A is a genetic test that can be performed on embryos produced through IVF to screen for chromosomal abnormalities. PGT-A is offered as a complement to a patient’s IVF treatment to improve pregnancy success rates and reduce the risk of miscarriage by avoiding the transfer of embryos with the incorrect number of chromosomes.

Endometrial Health Testing – to optimise implantation outcomes during IVF

Endometrial health testing involves the determination of the optimal time and environment for embryo implantation. It plays a crucial role in fertility evaluations, particularly for individuals undergoing IVF or those experiencing recurrent implantation failure or recurrent pregnancy loss.

TriScreen non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) – to assess the risk of fetal chromosomal abnormalities in early pregnancy

TriScreen NIPT uses a single maternal blood draw from the mother’s arm for the detection of chromosomal abnormalities early in pregnancy, providing a greater sense of comfort.

MiniMi: An early fetal sex test developed in-house, available from just 10 weeks of pregnancy.

Genetic Counselling – healthcare professionals that are trained in medical genetics and counselling.

They help you make sense of complex genetic information, discuss the available options and possible implications thereof whilst providing emotional support throughout the process. Genetic counsellors do not only focus on you as an individual but will enable you to understand the impact of genetic test results on your family.

Build and protect your family’s future health
Whether you are navigating fertility options, undergoing genetic screening, or preparing for parenthood, Next Biosciences is your trusted partner. They combine advanced science with human care to help you fulfil the dream of having a family.
