Why would someone use a surrogate?

Heterosexual and homosexual couples or single parents use the assistance of a surrogate mother in order to have a child.

A woman might decide to use a surrogate for several reasons:

• She may have medical problems with her uterus, such as recurring uterine fibroids, excessive endometrial scarring, adenomyosis or tubal factors.
• She may have had a hysterectomy where her uterus was removed.
• There may be health conditions that the woman suffers that make pregnancy impossible or medically very risky and she may be advised by her fertility specialist that this is one of her options if she wants to have a child.
